WHAT IS THE WILL OF GOD?

“The world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” 1 John 2: 17 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 6: 39, 40. When God created man, He made him perfect, physically, spiritually, and really good looking guy. God did not make him a pigmy but a giant. He also made a woman out of the man’s rib so that they will complement each other. God also made them so that they have a power of choice, not like robots that do what is commanded them. After creating them God blessed them so that they will multiply and replenish the earth.

God’s will for Adam and Eve and their descendants is that they will live forever, but before they could do so, they must first pass a test of loyalty to their Creator. That test of loyalty is Obedience. “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Genesis 2: 16, 17.

When our parents failed the test, the sentence of death was pronounced upon every living creature upon the earth. Man began to die, flowers faded, the grass withered, animals became wild. But God did not leave man to die without the hope of regaining his former state. He put Plan B in motion which had been in place since the foundation of the world. Even before giving the sentence of death, God told the guilty pair, 15You and this woman will hate each other; your descendants and hers will always be enemies. One of hers will strike you on the head, and you will strike him on the heel.” Genesis 3:15 This was the Plan B which God put in place just in case the man sins by eating of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, one of the Godhead will come to earth to die for that sin so that the ransom will be paid. Fast forward four thousand years later. The story of the virgin birth which had been prophesied by the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 7:14 ) came to pass as related in the books of Matthew and Luke. His ministry was three and a half years to make the sacrifices and oblations to cease as told in Daniel 9:27, and sufferings in Isaiah 53. At the cross, the snake in Genesis 3:15 struck Jesus on his heel. But what Satan thought was his victory was his death sentence, because at Calvary, Jesus died for the sins of mankind, and broke the death sentence pronounced at the Garden of Eden.

What is the will of God? God is not willing that any one should perish but have everlasting life. How? Jesus said, “This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 6: 39, 40 In His interview with Nicodemus, Jesus told the Pharisee, “And the Son of Man must be lifted up, just as that metal snake was lifted up by Moses in the desert. [a] 15Then everyone who has faith in the Son of Man will have eternal life. 16God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die. 17God did not send his Son into the world to condemn its people. He sent him to save them! 18No one who has faith in God’s Son will be condemned. But everyone who doesn’t have faith in him has already been condemned for not having faith in God’s only Son.” John 3: 14-18.

Is God’s will that we should suffer sickness, death, calamities, and other inhumanities inflicted by people against their fellow men? Not by a long chance. The Apostle John wrote, 2”Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well” 3John 2.. He wrote that through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. God wants peace in all mankind, but since we are in a world ruled by the devil, we will never have one until he and his evil angels are totally destroyed by God. Do you know that if Satan is not restrained by God, we will be worse off? Satan hates every thing that God stands for so he does his best to inflict all sorts of afflictions especially on those who want to follow God with all their heart. They want to do God’s will. The Lord says, “The world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” 1 John 2: 17.That is the test of loyalty for the modern follower of God. Obedience to the Word of God as found in His Word.

Jesus is coming soon. In Revelation 1: 3-8, Jesus told the Apostle John his message to the seven churches in Asia, representing the stages of the Christian church in history. He said, 3”Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near. 4 John, to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed[a] us from our sins in His own blood, 6 and has made us kings[b] and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

7 Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.
8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,”[c] says the Lord,[d] “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Amen. Even so, Come, Lord Jesus.
