VANCOUVER, BC. From the Oval to the Forum, The Filipino Canadian Cultural Heritage Society (FCCHS) of British Columbia announces the second staging of the largest outdoor Filipino Canadian community celebration in British Columbia, right at the heart of Metro Vancouver... at the landmark of the PNE! This is THE 2011 PHILIPPINE SUMMER FESTIVAL of BRITISH COLUMBIA!
“Hataw Pinoy!” the Filipino-Canadian battlecry centrally focused on recognizing the Filipino culture, values, talents and ingenuity, is one event that captures the spirit of being “Pinoy” – “malakas, maligaya at kapaki-pakinabang!” –three words that describe the Filipino in our country’s pledge of allegiance or “Panatang Makabayan”. FCCH, the organizers of this huge undertaking once more anticipates a totally unique celebration of the “Hataw” festival as Filipinos, now the third largest ethnic community in the province, showcase their sumptuous traditional cuisine in a festival of tastes from various regions in the Philippines, present their talents in creative forms of entertainment, including this year’s new offering for the “not so young, but never old” Group, in their “Walang Kupas Sing-Galing” stage performances, and other surprises presentations. Another launching activity is the “perya ng bayan piyesta-papremyo” for never-before chances to win fantastic prizes.
From all over the Greater Vancouver area and neighboring cities, Filipino communities all the way from down Kelowna and Kamloops to upper Pemberton and Whistler areas, from the islands of Nanaimo and Victoria, as well as Filipino communities from across the border in Seattle, WA., will comprise the crowd of 10,000 to 15,000 “Hataw Pinoy” merrymakers expected to grace the 2011 celebration of the Filipino community in the world’s most beautiful province of British Columbia.
