VANCOUVER, BC. “This is their day, and this is our way of showing honor and respect to our Seniors, the Aged, our Veterans and Elders”, declared Kuya Alvin, President of the Metro Vancouver Philippine Arts & Culture Exposition Society (MV-PACES) in describing the main theme of this year’s Philippine Day Festival celebration on June 9-10, 2012 at the Waterfront Park in North Vancouver. Director Robert Tongko, the man behind the program festivities for the last seven years of the festival announces a jam-packed schedule of performances for the event, which has just received a unanimous vote from the Council of Mayor Darrell Mussatto to extend this year’s celebration to 2 days.

“Our Philippine Days Festival is now considered as the second largest community event being held at the Waterfront Park, next to the Carribean Festival, “ said Direk Tongko, “and the extended day will allow us to showcase Philippine Arts and Culture at its best!” he added. Direk is also laying down the framework for the “Senior Moments” Special program which will include the Search for the “SENIOR IDOL” Singing Champion. “Tribute to Seniors”, reminds all Filipino families and other attendees to the event, “If you have a Senior, Aged, Veteran or Elder at home, age 65 or older, bring them to the festival on June 10 and let them be in their Sunday’s best. We shall give them their “Honoree” ribbon and reserve them a special seat in front of the stage for the festivities! This will truly be a day worth remembering for them” she said.
