MANILA, Philippines—Until now the bodies of two missing Pinays is nowhere to be found after four more bodies were recovered from the rubble of a collapsed supermarket in quake-hit Haiti , the Philippine military said on January 26. In an interview, Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Romeo Brawner, Jr. said the new bodies found in the ruins of the Caribbean Supermarket belonged to Haiti nationals.
Grace Fabian and Geraldine Calican have remained missing since the massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake shook Haiti on January 12, killing around 150,000 and leaving around a million people homeless.
Earlier, rescuers found the bodies of four Filipino peacekeepers and a civilian UN volunteer at the collapsed UN headquarters in Port-au-Prince.Nearly two weeks after the 7.0 magnitude earthquake and authorities have shifted from rescue to search and retrieval operations.
Brawner, citing a report of Lieutenant Colonel Lope Dagoy, Commander of the 10th Philippine Contingent to Haiti, said retrieval operations were ongoing. “The recovery operations are now ongoing,” he said.
Four bodies of other Filipino casualties have been recovered last week namely Data Processor 3 Perlie Panangui, Air Force Sergeant Janice Arocena and Army Sergeant Eustacio Bermudez, Jr., of the 10th Philippine Contingent to Haiti and UN civilian employee Jerome Yap.
The bodies of the three peacekeepers—Data Processor 3 Perlie Panangui, Air Force Sergeant Janice Arocena and Army Sergeant Eustacio Bermudez, Jr.—would be brought to the Philippines by Thursday.
