Iza Calzado charms Vancouver

VANCOUVER - If there was a prize for Movie Star with the Sweetest Personality, Iza Calzado would take the cake. Beautiful inside and out, Calzado brightened the day of as a guest judge and a performer. The event was held on September 3 at the Broadway Church. During her sound check she was good humored and said that she didn’t usually sing, promising that her acting was better. No promises were necessary though because her voice was as stunning as her figure. This is Calzado’s second time in Vancouver, and now that she has tried singing live on stage here, she wants to continue singing more bit by bit. “I’ve sang on stage for several performances at other places, but it would not be like this one here. We would prerecord my voice before, but now I’m pushing myself to sing live,” says Calzado.

“It’s a challenge… I get really nervous before a performance and I’m like totally outside of my comfort zone, but I hope that one day I can sing more songs with more confidence and be able to entertain people in that way because it’s one of my frustrations, wanting to be able to sing for people. It was very tough to be a judge for this show.. it was even more tough to have to sing and be part of this show but I enjoyed trying to sing to you guys in the best way I could.”

Calzado played a monumental role in PNT Singing Idol not just as a performer but also as a judge. She seemed more interested in the voices of the PNT Singing Idol contestants rather than her own though. “It was fantastic. When I was on stage I was overwhelmed by the amount of talent that you guys have here. The children were amazing, not to say that the teens and the adults were not, it’s just that, you know, children singing really well and having total command on stage is something that really makes you wonder how they build up to that,” said Calzado.

During an interview at the Vancouver International Airport, reporters asked about her life outside of her career and sprung a surprise question on her—what’s the scoop between you and President P Noy [Noynoy Aquino]? Though she declined to respond, she promised to give an answer soon. “I’ll answer everything when I get to Manila. Just so I can answer it just one time, that’s it… so I don’t have to keep repeating it over again,” Calzado said with a laugh. When asked if it’s that big of a secret, she just smiled and said, “I’m sure some people would already know what the answer is.” Calzado says that she really enjoyed the few days she was able to spend here. She says that not only did everyone take extra good care of her, everyone was also warm, friendly, and efficient. “I’ve been so blessed to have the opportunity to meet the people in Vancouver especially Rey Fortaleza and his family, as well as everyone who was part of the production for PNT Singing Idol.” Before boarding the plane headed back to the Philippines, Calzado bid a final farewell, “Sa lahat nang mga kababayan natin na talagang tumulong para maging successful ang PNT Singing Idol, thank you so much!”
