Vancouver - The Filipino Channel (TFC) proved once more that they can draw people power with their “kapamilya” artists when thousands of Pinoy-Canucks from all over British Columbia trekked to the Forum of the Pacific National Exhibition for the 2011 Christmas Gifts & Food Fair event, dubbed as “Pasko Na Namang Muli..sa PNE!”
“Banana Split” stars and comedy tandem Angelica Panganiban and Pooh blasted a two-hour segment of hilarious fun and entertainment to cheering and giggling fans who filled the bleachers of the venue, and stayed even after their show hoping for more.
“Truly a big revelation for us!” declared Phil Dela Merced, president of Pasko 2011 organizing body Palengkeng Pinoy Trade and Exchange Network, (PP10) Inc. He also said that, “this time of the year, Pinoys just want to have fun, laugh, eat and be merry. This is the very essence of Paskong Pinoy!”
Vancouver’s sweetheart Joey Albert serenaded the crowd with Christmas carols Sunday afternoon, and was later joined by comedienne/entertainer Fe Delos Reyes, who flew all the way from San Francisco, for an unexpected duet of songs with Ms. Albert that stirred the crowd to great jubilation.
By 4 pm, the building was already jam-packed with some three thousand people and, when it was announced that the TFC stars were already inside the Forum, the crowd began moving closer to the stage. When emcees Joy Ruiz, Debbie Arkoncel and Babes Castro-Newland introduced Pooh, the crowd roared with delight, and it was non-stop cheers and laughter from thereon.
A big surprise of the two-day event is the launch of the very first variety show FYE (For Your Entertainment) which showcased talents par excellence under the direction of Ms. Babes Castro-Newland. Their amazing production numbers wowed the public with performances almost to the level of leading entertainment noontime programs in the Philippines.
“With Paskong Pinoy, a tradition was born today for the Filipino community of BC,” Rey Fortaleza, PP10 chairman, said. He added that, “and with great partners like ABS CBN and The Filipino Channel (TFC), we shall continue to bring the Christmas spirit, as uniquely as Pinoys celebrate it back home, to the growing community of Filipino Canadians in this part of Canada. This one event where we come together as one family welcoming the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”
The first day also had a celebration of the Eucharist in the traditional “misa de gallo” simbang-gabi organized by the Couples for Christ and attended by more than a thousand faithful from the audience.
