Let’s face it, the costs of health care is getting bigger and bigger. Our population are aging therefore there will be, down the line a future hospital stay for each of us at least once in our lifetime. The costs to the Government often runs into thousands of dollars. Bear in mind each of our Doctors visits do add up. So for us to be in better shape means less visits to the Doctors or hospital stay, thereby saving our Government millions of dollars.
One of the good tax credit that the Harper Government implemented last 2007 was the Children’s Fitness tax credit. It has allowed parents to claim up to a $500 dollars credit towards most organized sports and fitness activities of their children. It is estimated that 1.5million Canadians makes use of the child fitness tax credit each year. If the $1,000/ per child tax credit will be implemented am pretty sure that number will increase by the ten fold.
By Monday, June 6, during the budget session, let us hope that the Adult Fitness tax credit will be implemented. I know that for some waiting four years, is still considered too ways off, but this is a groundbreaking incentive for us adults. It will give us the push to emulate our children to take better care of ourselves. Imagine the health benefits and no guilt tripping it will bring, because hey, we don’t need to dip into our household budget or our savings to maintain a gym membership. Time to dust off my gym shoes and clothes, need to find my Gym ID. Say bye bye to my remote, television, computer and other techno geegaws and push my body to move, move, move.
