MANILA (PNA) -- A more powerful, faster Manny Pacquiao reported at the Wild Card Gym Monday (Tuesday in Manila), thus, creating a good impression on those who witnessed him do the mitts and other gym activities in the very first day of his Los Angeles camp in preparation for his coming fight a month and eight days from now. The Filipino boxing treasure will be trying to bounce back from a controversial majority decision loss to American Timothy Bradley last June against Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez, who will be his dancing partner atop the square arena for the fourth time on December 8 in Las Vegas.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are settling a federal defamation case in Las Vegas, clearing a key hurdle to a long-awaited bout between two top fighters who’ve traded verbal jabs for years but have never met in the ring. Terms of the pretrial agreement cited in documents filed Tuesday in US District Court in Las Vegas are confidential, said Malcolm LaVergne, a lawyer representing Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s father in the case.

New Nike deal awaits Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz revealed that Nike has some new deals in store for the eight-division world champion. Koncz told the Manila Standard that he talked to executives of Nike’s Corporate Office in their headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon and that they felt the comments by Ultimate Fighting Championship’s Dana White that Nike had dropped Pacquiao were “pretty amusing,” but certainly not true.

Manny Pacquiao sat down with his chief promoter Bob Arum yesterday in General Santos City but they left everything on the table regarding the Filipino boxing icon’s next fight. “We had a very good discussion,” said Pacquiao’s chief adviser, Mike Koncz, who was at the meeting that took place at around noon and lasted more than two hours. “But we haven’t made any decision,” he added. Koncz did not reveal the details of the meeting, and said they all agreed to keep things from the media.

Nonito Donaire will be short of visiting the lion’s den when he returns to the ring in October. Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum said Donaire will meet Mexican four-divison champion Jorce Arce in a 12- round title fight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The choice of the Staples Center as venue is a no-brainer considering Southern California is heavily populated by Mexicans. While the Los Angeles area has a large concentration of Filipinos, it is considered as the second home of Mexicans and Arum is banking on the Hispanics’ strong nationalistic fervor to make the fight a huge success.
