Fundraising for Victims of Richmond Rosario Gardens

Richmond - S.U.C.C.E.S.S., one of the largest social service agency helping new Canadians in Metro Vancouver, presented a cheque of $7,197.25 to Mr. Ed­die Chu, Chair of Strata Council of Rosario Gardens earlier this week. The fund was raised from its 12 locations to help those af­fected by the airplane crash in Richmond on October 19, 2007.“Our goal is to help people.

NDP takes action on transit safety

SURREY – The NDP turned up the heat on the Campbell government today to improve transit safety and protect commuters at SkyTrain sta­tions across the Lower Main­land. MLAs Adrian Dix, Bruce Ralston, Shane Simpson and Raj Chouhan fanned out to stations in Burnaby, Surrey and Vancouver to speak with concerned commuters and to collect signatures for the NDP’s 10-point plan to make transit safer. “The Campbell government is out of touch with the needs of transit commut­ers,” said Surrey – Whalley MLA Bruce Ralston. “Safety is essential to promoting transit use. If we are encouraging people to take public transit, we have an obliga­tion to make it safe.”

BC receives climate action team report

British Columbia’s Climate Action Team has presented its recommendations for strategies and interim emissions targets for 2012 and 2016 to assist the Province achieve its emission re­duction target of 33 per cent by 2020, Premier Gordon Campbell announced. “The Climate Action Team has developed economically viable in­terim targets and recommended comprehensive strategies that will bridge the gap to our 2020 goal,” said Premier Campbell. The team’s report is available online for public comment for at least 60 days until Monday, Oct. 6, 2008. As required by the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Targets Act, the interim targets for 2012 and 2016 will be set into law, through regu­lation, by the end of this year.

Jason Kenney ,the Federal Minister for Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity, recently con­ducted a rountable discussion with Filipino Canadian com­munity leaders to discuss issues important to the Filipino Com­munity. This meeting was organized by the Special Assistant in the Minis­ters Regional office Ronald Leung and PNT Political Correspondent & Ugnayan Foundation Executive Rey Concepcion. Present were a broad spectrum of the community since Minister Kenney emphasized he wanted to meet different voices in the com­munity.
